- Co-Active Coaching by Laura Whitworth, Henry Kimsey-House and
Phil Sandahl. My coaching "bible", this is the textbook for the
Coaches Training Institute curriculum. It lays out the co-active coaching
model, a style of coaching which involves the active and collaborative
participation of both the coach and the client.
- Taming Your
Gremlin (Revised Edition): A Surprisingly Simple Method for Getting
Out of Your Own Way by Richard Carson. What's that voice in your head
telling you you're not good enough, not worthy, you might fail, you
might get hurt? Why that's your Gremlin, defender of the status quo.
A great little book to help you recognize and disarm your self-defeating
behaviors.
- The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work by John
Gottman, PhD. So, you think the key to a solid marriage is communication,
communication, communication. Phooey, says Dr. Gottman, author
of this amazing book. It's HOW you communicate, and more specifically,
how you argue, that's the key to an emotionally intelligent marriage.
- The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom by Don
Miguel Ruiz. A powerful little book that I recommend to all of my
clients. Ruiz asks the reader to adopt four simple agreements to replace
self-limiting beliefs and re-discover your true self.
- Attracting Perfect
Customers: The Power of Strategic Synchronicity by Stacey Hall
and Jan Brogniez. The absolute best "marketing" book for coaches.
The basic premise is that you are the perfect coach for a subset of
the clients out there. Your job? Let them know how to find you.
- Teacher's
Pet: Clarity, Choice and Action in Your Career by Miriam Bamberger
and Heather Bradley. A great little book that walks the reader through
a coaching relationship. An easy read that gives the reader quick
insight into what coaching is and what it isn't.
- Leadership and
Self Deception: Getting Out of the Box by The Arbinger Institute.
A seemingly simple story that punches you right in the gut. Whether
you think you're "good with people" or know you need to be, this book
is a must-read.
- Tuesdays With Morrie: An Old Man, A Young Man,
and Life's Greatest Lesson by Mitch Albom. A sweet, true story
that reminds us what's really important in life.
